The Industrial / Manufacturing Engineer will create, develop, and implement efficient manufacturing systems, reducing costs while maintaining standards of operations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with other departments to design cost-effective manufacturing layouts and building ergonomics for new and existing product lines.
- Designs, redesigns, or enhances work areas and layouts so that awkward or uncomfortable positions, repetitive motions, and inefficient operations are reduced or eliminated.
- Maintains knowledge of best practices in manufacturing methods, and trends and developments in technology and equipment; applies this knowledge to maintain the organization’s competitive edge.
- Identifies and assesses various problems and departures from established manufacturing standards and best practices; researches and recommends solutions.
- Develops and maintains management information, planning, and control systems.
- Implements methods and modifications to reduce production costs.
- Establish line labor standards, quality controls and productivity standards for extrusion lines and other manufacturing flows and processes.
- Support development and usage of tools to help ensure proper configuration of orders per the customer’s requirements.
- Support New Assembly Transitions, New Customer Introductions, User Group Implementations and DFM Development.
- Support new product start-up and First Build troubleshooting.
- Work with Factory Team, Planners, Quality and other Departments to prioritize and plan daily needs for the factory.
- Support assembly build instruction creation and upkeep.
- Understand all equipment capabilities, operation and methods within the focus factory to ensure superb product quality, process capability and efficiency.
- Ensure all processes are set-up, operating and monitored in accordance with the requirements set forth by the manufacturing engineer and customer, and support a smooth product transition into manufacturing.
- Support and Perform research of customer and supplier documentation (datasheets, drawings, etc.) to ensure material conforms to specifications.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of ergonomics and applicable industry standards.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Strong skills in CAD, automation, and plastic extrusion processes
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering required.
- At least 2 yrs of engineering experience required with plastics experience preferred.
- Knowledge in plastic extrusion and sheet manufacturing, Lean Manufacturing, & Quality Systems required.
- PLC programming, Plastic Tool Die Designing, Automation design and implementation work a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas in the facility and access all machinery.
