The basic function of maintenance is to perform the preventative maintenance and necessary repairs on equipment, tooling, and buildings such that they remain in good working order and are in compliance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements.

Reporting to this position: None
  • Install, replace, or change equipment, machines, machine or tooling parts and attachments according to established procedures and specifications
  • Lubricate or apply lubricating materials to equipment, machines, machine or tooling parts and attachments according to established procedures or specifications.
  • Dismantle equipment, machines, and tooling and remove parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
  • Clean machines and machine parts, using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, or other equipment.
    • Remove hardened material from machines or machine parts, using established methods and procedures
  • Inspect or test damaged machine parts, and mark defective areas or advise supervisors of repair needs.
  • Read work orders and manual specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
  • Document repairs and machine maintenance information.
  • Transport machine parts, tools, equipment, and other material between work sites and storage.
  • Perform regularly scheduled maintenance on lift trucks
  • Perform regularly scheduled maintenance on hoists
  • Perform routine electrical repairs such as replacing small AC motors, exhaust fans, lighting fixtures, light switches, and ballasts.
  • Perform routine welding work as required
  • Perform routine HVAC maintenance
  • Perform routine building repairs or replacement of passage doors, windows, overhead doors/panels, tracks,
  • Maintain adequate supply of consumables required for maintenance purposes
  • Input accurate time keeping and production records
  • Follow Good Housekeeping practices in work area.
  • Work safely; following legislated, and Bedford Technology, safety rules and practices.
  • Follow the Policies and Procedures of the company
  • Perform any other task or work assignment that may be delegated from time to time by a supervisor.

Education        Required: High School.          Preferred: A 2-year certificate or diploma from a technical school in a related field of study.      
Experience      A minimum of 3 - 5 years in maintenance position preferably in a manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment.  Welding experience.-MIG, TIG, stick.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • Ability to obtain valid operators license for operating lift trucks.
  • Valid Class C motor vehicle operators license for driving between sites.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English to perform essential duties.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
  • Good reading comprehension
  • Demonstrable troubleshooting ability
  • Standing, stooping, bending, lifting, carrying, pulling and pushing to perform job requirements.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. 

Primarily in a production plant environment. Exposure to cold, hot, dirty, noisy and congested conditions. 

  • Scheduled output for job requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Quality expectations of work completed is met or exceeded.
  • The effectiveness of Good Housekeeping Practices as measured by the state of organization and cleanliness in immediate work area.
