The primary focus of the Cargo Claims Specialist is to execute and lead the day-to-day claims handling operations in the cargo claims department. Duties and responsibilities:
- Receive, review, and process submitted claims paperwork.
- Assist carrier partner and/or customer service with investigation of cargo claims.
- Serve as a point of contact for questions on operations’ best practices, broker and carrier liability.
- Oversee the filing of all claims using the EZ Claims software or current claims platform.
- Lead and oversee updates to the claims platform with current claims status.
- Assist and complete weekly claim audits.
- Maintain and update claims litigation sheet and provide reporting as required.
- Receive checks from carriers, and requests customer payments from the A/P team.
- Review carrier claims denials to ensure accuracy and escalate as needed.
- Understand overall insurance and claim platform, limits of liability, and carrier rules/tariffs.
- Negotiate with carriers and adjusters as needed to resolve claims and obtain the best possible result for TRAFFIX and our shipping partners.
- Set up new customers with a filing template, and weekly reporting to their specific requirements.
- Provide claim resolution details to Director and VP of Risk Management.
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain and/or insurance/finance field or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- 2-4 years operational logistics preferred.
- 2-4 years prior cargo claims experience required.
- Decisive problem-solver with demeanour to handle critical issues with tact and speed.
- Strong customer service and communication skills, professional demeanor on phone calls and in emails to a wide variety of professionals at all levels.
- Must have excellent PC skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred.
- Goal oriented, always willing to seek knowledge and improve upon skills in order to drive new ideas.
- Ability to work independently, be a highly motivated leader and self-starter.
- Possess a positive and persistent attitude required to build relationships and gain cooperation from various departments and external partners.
