ROLE
Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Advisor is responsible for providing day to day human resources support to employees on the project site including administration, employee and labour relations, onboarding, investigations, and performance management. The Human Resource Advisor will advise leaders on best practices to support the business and mitigate risks. The Human Resources Advisor will provide support at a level that builds successful relationships between SMJV and its Client, various governmental agencies and within our organization to encourage a culture in line with our values of Never Harm, Trust, Integrity, and Assured Delivery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Project Human Resources (HR) related support including employee and labour relations, onboarding, investigations, performance management and advising leaders on best practices to support the business and mitigate risks.
  • Supports, implements, and administers corporate and project specific HR programs, such as, recruitment, performance management, respectful workplace, employment processing, employee engagement and retention.
  • Provides recruitment support to Project Leaders, in collaboration with the Talent Acquisition team, job description development and advertisement, interviews, compensation recommendations, selection of candidates, and onboarding.
  • Executes site level onboarding, in collaboration with on-site payroll and the Health & Safety department.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to project leadership including coaching, career development, and corrective action.
  • Drug and Alcohol program administration and notifications, in collaboration with corporate support. 
  • Maintaining confidential HR documents and files, ensuring all required documentation is provided and up to date.
  • Works with Project Leaders on professional development of their direct reports. 
  • Provides advice, recommendations, and risk assessments to Field Leaders, Department Leaders, and Project Management on HR matters, in line with company policy, best practices, union and regulatory obligations.
  • Provides support to employees for general queries and workplace concerns.
  • Maintains professionalism and confidentiality, adhering to applicable privacy laws.
  • Completes workplace investigations, provides, and follows through with recommendations and completes close out reports.
  • Liaises with the union representatives, and provide grievance support, in collaboration with HR Leadership and Joint Venture partners.
  • Advises and executes employee departures, inclusive of dismissals and completes applicable paperwork.
  • Promotes, communicates, and implements human resources programs and initiatives.

Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CPHR) is considered an asset.
Experience
  • Three plus (3+) years of experience in a Human Resources role, preferably in the construction industry working for a construction contractor.
  • One plus (1+) year(s) in a Human Resources Advisor role or similar.
  • On site, field-based experience considered an asset.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Flexible to meet and adapt to constantly changing demands of the workplace. 
  • Powerful organizational skills with a very high standard of attention to detail. 
  • A business partner client orientated mind-set with a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with a diverse client group.
  • Ability to work independently, with self-driven initiative, organizational skills and within tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of The Privacy Act with the ability to handle confidential & sensitive information appropriately. 
  • Knowledge of Union workforce collaboration and collective bargaining agreements.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is is field based and often works within remote project locations.  Travel and/or living in temporary accommodation is required.

Project schedules are typically Monday to Saturday, 12 hours per day.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Human Resources Advisor reports to the Manager, Human Resources.

Expected Compensation Range of $34.00 to $50.00 per hour
