The White Barn Inn is currently recruiting a talented and creative Pastry Cook. The ideal candidate assist the Pastry chef  with pastry/bakery items within the kitchen department. He/she will strive to exceed guest's expectations, while working as a team with the rest of the culinary brigade. The position reports to the Pastry Chef.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the preparation of all pastry items, bakery and desserts ensuring consistent quality and following recipe cards according to portion standards, within specific time frame required. 
  • Ensure correct date of all food containers and rotate as per the White Barn Inn standards, making sure that all perishables are kept at proper temperatures. 
  • Check pars for shift use, determine necessary preparation, freezer pull and line set up. Note any out of stock items or possible shortages. 
  • Ensure return all food items not used on next shift to designated storage areas, being sure to cover date all perishables. 
  • Assist Pastry Chef in setting up plans and actions to correct any pastry and bakery cost problems, control waste, loss and usage.  
  • Maintain and properly clean all the kitchen equipment.
  • Ensure safe food handling procedures are met and maintain a safe working environment
  • Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis. 
  • Perform any other job related duties as assigned.
 
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
Ideal candidate possesses a minimum of 1-year experience in pastry and bakery preparation.
Culinary Certificate or Degree preferred. Serve Safe Certification highly appreciated.
Professional appearance and manner, good character to work in a fast-paced team. Positive, honest and energetic work ethic.
 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Ability to communicate clearly in English and to read the recipe cards.
Able to work on a flexible schedule, including week-ends and holidays, according to department needs.
Must be able to stand for at least 8 hours and be able to lift up, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
