POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Wisconsin Sate Fair Park (WSFP) is seeking a skilled, customer service-oriented candidate to fill a year-round position in our Facility Services Department. The position’s core duties include preparation, maintenance, and cleaning of the Wisconsin State Fair Park’s various buildings, and grounds. This position will be responsible for record keeping and day porting duties within the Youth Dorm, Cream Puff Pavilion, and Wisconsin Products Pavilion to maintain our cleaning standard and in some areas assist the work of our evening contract cleaners. This position will be responsible for opening and maintaining multiple restrooms throughout the fair park in preparation for State Fair’s spring and summer event schedule. This position will also be a skilled small equipment operator specifically relating to the use of cleaning and sanitation equipment used in the Janitorial Program.
EMPLOYMENT TYPE
This position is an unclassified, Dual-Limited Term Employment (LTE) position within the State of Wisconsin employment system, working an average of 40 hours per week throughout the calendar year. Annual hours worked will not exceed 2,078.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The starting wage for this role will be $17.00 to $18.00 per hour, based on qualifications. A comprehensive fringe benefits package, including health and dental insurance, life insurance, and disability insurance is available after a minimum employment period is met. Annual hours worked will not exceed 2,078. Paid time off for vacation, holidays, etc. is not included as part of the benefits package.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintain a record of cleaning checklists and report to the Janitorial Program Manager.
- Record keeping involved in the maintenance of the Tommy G. Thompson’s MIWA lock system, window dressings, bed maintenance, showers, sinks, toilets, and furniture.
- Lead a crew to assist in cleaning various locations throughout the park including restrooms, shower rooms, offices, common areas, hallways, and entryways during events.
- Complete work orders for facility repairs in the Tommy and throughout the park.
- Act in the capacity of a supervisor for LTE staff both in the Tommy Youth Dorm and throughout the park.
- Maintenance of the Tommy Youth Dorm’s elevator and report issues to engineering team.
- MIWA Key System Basics.
- Act as a liaison between the Agriculture Department and the cleaning contractor during the annual Wisconsin State Fair.
- Communicate necessary building information to other offices, specifically the Wisconsin State Fair Foundation and the Kids from Wisconsin.
- Maintain safety standards as per the standard of our custodial and equipment operations.
- Use of small equipment i.e. Kaivac No-Touch Cleaning System, Clorox 360, electrostatic sprayers, floor scrubbers, carpet/ upholstery extraction equipment, backpack and upright vacuums, and hand tools associated with the troubleshooting/ maintenance of these varied pieces of equipment.
- General cleaning and maintenance of the Tommy Thompson Youth Dorm.
- Maintain/clean and set up the meeting rooms i.e. Rock River and Honey Creek for internal and external events.
- Assist with any events that require standby staff.
- Conduct deep cleaning throughout the park and in the Tommy Youth Dorms in accordance with the Janitorial Program Manager’s building audits.
- Assist in opening restrooms, shower rooms and public facing areas in the spring and summer for the annual Wisconsin State Fair.
- Move equipment, tools, supplies, materials as needed to locations.
- Set up tables, chairs, and any other equipment needed for events.
- Any other tasks delegated by the various managers in the Facilities Services Department.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s license.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Leadership skills and ability to delegate tasks to others.
- Knowledge of custodial and maintenance “best” practices and techniques.
- Basic knowledge of the importance of customer service.
- Basic knowledge of occupational hazards associated with custodial practices.
- Ability to use technology i.e. smartphone, computers Microsoft office suite, texting etc.
- Ability to regularly reach, lift above the shoulder height, push, pull, bend, stoop, execute repetitive tasks.
- Ability to walk/stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to use hand for basic grasping/ manipulation of equipment handles.
- Ability to work in varied conditions i.e. cold, heat and humidity, dust and other irritants, barn environment, exposure to chemicals and pathogens.
- Alternative work schedules and shifts as required by Facilities Services event-based demographic.
