POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Wisconsin State Fair Park (WSFP) is seeking skilled, customer service-oriented candidates to fill a year-round Laborer position. The position’s core duties include set up, maintenance and tear down of the fair and other events at State Fair Park, along with general cleaning and maintenance tasks.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE
This position is an unclassified, Dual-Limited Term Employment (LTE) position within the State of Wisconsin employment system, working an average of 40 hours per week throughout the calendar year. More than 40 hours per week may be required leading up to and during the annual Wisconsin State Fair. Annual hours worked will not exceed 2,078.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The hourly wage for this role will commensurate with experience. Comprehensive fringe benefits package, including health and dental insurance, life insurance and disability insurance among others is available after minimum employment period is reached. Paid time off including vacation, holiday, and sick leave are not included as part of the benefits package per State of Wisconsin Legislature, s. 230.26(4), Wis. Stats.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Outdoor cleaning including but not limited to:
    • Paper-picking
    • Pulling of full garbage bags and replacing with new garbage bags
    • Sweeping
    • Pushing garbage carts
  • Assist equipment operators with the disposal of garbage bags into towed dumpsters
  • Assist with barn changeovers during the fair to include but not limited to:
    • Shoveling and sweeping stalls to standards determined by a supervisor or crew leader
    • Sweeping inside and outside of barns     
  • Removal of puddles after rains at the fair via brooms or squeegee
  • Maintaining restrooms during the show season in the beginning of the year in the expo building
  • Perform other duties as directed by Crew Leaders, Lead Laborers, Supervisors, Director of Facility Services, or Chief Operating Officer 

QUALIFICATIONS
  • General cleaning experience, preferred
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time with or without accommodation
  • Ability to lift up-to 40 pounds with or without accommodation

SPECIAL NOTES
The candidate must be able to work all 11 days of the annual Wisconsin State Fair; for 2025 these dates are July 31-August 10, 2025.  Prior to appointment to this position, the candidate will be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check.

This employee may be exposed to (sometimes harsh) cleaning products along with working in a barn-like environment for extended periods of time.
