POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to a Public Safety Captain, this role will oversee aspects of public safety related operations and services provided at Wisconsin State Fair Park (WSFP).  This seasonal position will be assigned to first or second shift, but may be adjusted, based on operational needs.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE
This position is an unclassified, seasonal Limited Term Employment (LTE) position within the State of Wisconsin employment system. This role will work in a full-time capacity over the 11-day annual Wisconsin State Fair, which includes weekends. There may be additional work hours offered before and/or after the annual fair. Annual hours worked in this position will not exceed 1039 hours.


COMPENSATION
The starting wage for this role will be $18.75 per hour.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate assigned area operations
  • Aid in emergency and non-emergency situations
  • Respond to disruptive and/or disorderly incidents, various medical situations and assure order is maintained
  • Supervise, evaluate, and complete performance appraisals for assigned personnel
  • Administer department rules, regulations, policies and procedures to assigned staff
  • Assist law enforcement personnel as directed
  • Conduct inspections of assigned personnel
  • Attend required trainings to maintain a Public Safety Lieutenant status
  • Assist the Public Safety Captain with assignments

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience working in a public safety or police-related capacity, required
  • Previous supervisory experience, preferred
  • Knowledge of concepts, trends, and issues influencing public safety
  • Maintain Defense and Arrest Tactics (DAAT) training
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively delegate authority and responsibility while providing a means to maintain accountability
  • Adept using technology-based equipment (i.e., computer, radio, cell phone)
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License

SPECIAL NOTES
The candidate must be able to work all 11 days of the annual Wisconsin State Fair. Prior to appointment to this position, the candidate will be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check.
