POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Crew Leader (Fair-Only) is responsible for routine maintenance and manual labor requiring a small degree of independent judgment under the supervision of the Facilities Services Manager supervision staff. The Crew Leader will provide leadership to LTE (Limited Term Employee) crews during the run of the annual Wisconsin State Fair. This position will be a working leader tasked with maintaining assigned buildings and areas within a designated area of the fair park. This position will work with the permanent supervisory staff team in employee relations but does not have full supervisory authority to make final decisions on performance evaluations discipline and staffing (hiring/termination).

EMPLOYMENT TYPE
This position is an unclassified, Limited Term Employment (LTE) position within the State of Wisconsin employment system, working all 11-days of the Wisconsin State Fair and should they desire, working an average of 20 hours per week throughout the calendar year. Annual hours worked in this position will not exceed 1039 hours.


COMPENSATION
The starting wage for this role will be $15.50 per hour, based on qualifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Direct and monitor a crew of LTE laborers on work required to maintain an assigned building or area during the run of the Wisconsin State Fair. This includes prioritizing work and allocating resources to meet deadlines and standards.
  • Direct and monitor entry level custodial duties performed for the Wisconsin State Fair Event.
  • Instructs staff on the proper safe methods used to complete work for the Wisconsin State Fair Event.
  • Work in conjunction with the alternate crew leader for maintenance of building supplies.
  • Cleans various areas throughout the assigned building or area.
  • Provide an evaluation of LTE staff members for the run of the Wisconsin State Fair to provide the Facilities Services Management Team with adequate information regarding employee performance.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must work all 11 days of the park and be available for training prior to the Wisconsin State Fair Event.
  • You must possess leadership skills.
  • Must be able to maintain and establish a working relationship with the staff they are leading, event clients, customers, the Facility Services Management team and support staff.
  • Must possess a basic ability to meet the physical requirements of the entry level laborer position.
  • Ability to read, understand, and direct others to execute written, oral, and drawn instructions.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate the work of staff to achieve maximum results and efficiency.
  • For some areas/ positions a valid driver’s license is required.

SPECIAL NOTES
The candidate is required to work all 11 days of the annual Wisconsin State Fair as well as complete Crew Leader Training prior to the annual Wisconsin State Fair; for 2025 these dates are July 31 – August 11, 2023. Prior to appointment to this position, the candidate will be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check.
