POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Sign Shop Manager, this onsite position supports the design and production of signage for Wisconsin State Fair Park (WSFP), including the annual Wisconsin State Fair, IndyCar Series weekend, Harvest Fair, and external clients. Responsibilities include managing project workflow; designing event signage; and producing, printing, and finishing materials within the on-site sign shop. This role supports the full production process from concept through final output, blending creative design with hands-on production work. It requires the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, ensuring efficient job setup, printing, and final production while maintaining workflow continuity. Additional responsibilities include accurately tracking material usage to support operational efficiency and prevent delays, as well as embracing continuous learning by adapting to new technologies and software, including 3D rendering tools, and contributing to the development and operation of 3D printing capabilities within the sign shop.

Success in this role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results. The position requires reliability and punctuality, particularly during peak operational periods, with a focus on completing work accurately to maintain production standards and minimize rework. A high level of initiative is essential, including the ability to proactively transition between tasks to support a continuous and efficient workflow.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE
This position is an unclassified, Dual-Limited Term Employment (LTE) position within the State of Wisconsin employment system.  Annual hours worked will not exceed 2,078.


Scheduled hours typically range from 30–35 hours per week, October through June, with an increase to 40+ hours per week beginning in July and continuing through the annual Wisconsin State Fair to support peak operational demands. Additional extended hours are required to support other major events, including IndyCar Series weekend and Harvest Fair.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The starting wage for this role will be between $22.50 to $24.50 per hour, based on qualifications. A comprehensive fringe benefits package, including a pension, health and dental insurance, life insurance, and disability insurance is available after a minimum employment period is met. Paid time off for vacation, holidays, etc. is not included as part of the benefits package per State of Wisconsin Legislature, s. 230.26(4), Wis. Stats.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Primary Sign Shop Duties
• Assist in the operation of the wide format printer and vinyl cutters to make signs and banners
• Ensure all printing and binding equipment are properly maintained
                o Ensure Sign Shop is thoroughly cleaned and organized daily
• Assist with the installation and removal of printed signage throughout WSFP
• Confirm all signage projects are formatted correctly for printing
• Print approved signage on large format printers in accordance with WSFP standards

• Program and maintain digital displays across WSFP
                o Ensure all digital signage is current and reflects upcoming events
• Review sign order forms
                o Ensure that sign order procedures are followed
                o Ensure signage proofs are approved prior to beginning of production
                o Enforce sign order procedures and timelines
                o Ensure project management system is updated
• Maintain inventory of the Sign Shop signage
                o Physical printed signage and storage locations
                o Printing material for sign creation
                o Sign holders such as wind masters, A-Frame, 4-sided directional, etc.
                o Archive of digital files and sign order forms
                o Receive and properly store all materials
                o Maintain cleanliness and organization of storage areas housing all signage
                o Properly dispose of damaged and out-of-date signage


External Client Projects
• Assist with all print production for external clients
               o Ensure signage proofs have been approved by clients
               o Assist in shipping, padding, and shrink wrapping of all projects

Additional Design Duties
Work closely with the Creative Services department
              o Format and design signs based on approved creative assets
              o Assist Creative Services Director in design projects, as needed


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Thorough knowledge and extensive skill in using Adobe Design Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) and Microsoft Office
  • Advanced skill in typesetting, preferred
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination for precise cutting of signage and materials
  • Ability to use cutting tools to cut signage to precise measurements (Exacto, box cutter, etc.) 
  • Ability to mount signage on appropriate substrates/coroplast
  • Proficient skill in using hand/power tools
  • Ability to lift to 30 pounds with or without accommodation
  • Ability to stand and/or move around for extended periods at a time with or without accommodation 
  • Ability to bend and/crouch with or without accommodation

SPECIAL NOTES
The candidate must be able to work all 11 days of the annual Wisconsin State Fair. Additional weekend hours will also be required. Prior to appointment, the candidate will be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check.
