Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA), the Regions number one mobility provider, is looking to fill the Transit Bus Paint and Body Specialist position.  Working at CDTA, you will be a part of a team that provides essential services to the Capital Region. 

Duties and Responsibilities
The Transit Bus Paint and Body Specialist reports to the Foreman and is responsible for restoring the aesthetic and structural integrity of our fleet of buses and support vehicles. You will collaborate closely with other maintenance personnel and utilize industry-standard techniques for painting and bodywork.

General Duties:
  • Inspect buses for damage, including dents, scratches, and rust; repair or replace body panels.
  • Clean, sand, and prepare bus surfaces for proper paint and material adhesion.
  • Apply paint using spray guns and other equipment, ensuring even coverage that meets color specifications and quality standards.
  • Identify and treat rusted areas on the bus body, applying protective coatings to prevent future corrosion.
  • Apply finishes, sealants, and protective coatings; buff and polish painted surfaces for a high-quality appearance.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of completed work to ensure it meets company standards, addressing any issues found during inspections.
  • Communicate with supervisors and management regarding the needs and status of repairs and painting projects.
  • Stay updated on the paint and body repair industry's latest techniques, tools, and products through ongoing training and professional development.
  • Possess an essential toolset to perform daily duties; CDTA will provide specialized tools for daily operations and offer a generous tool allowance.
  • Essential training for daily tasks will occur during regular work hours, and CDTA will reimburse costs associated with maintaining ASE certifications.

Experience and Education
  • Five years of experience working in a body shop or auto restoration is preferred. Credit for vocational and apprenticeship training will be accepted.
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent.
  • Vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (Preferred)
  • Three years of driving with a clean NYS Class D driver’s license
  • Class B CDL with passenger endorsement required (or expected within three months of hire)

Compensation
Starting rate of $33.38 per hour
