The Director of Sacred Music works under the direction of the pastor and in collaboration to continue developing a sacred music program at the service of Roman Catholic liturgical worship in a parish setting. This includes, but is not limited to, playing at Masses, directing the choir(s), training cantors, planning sacred music for all liturgical celebrations in the parish, and providing/arranging for music at "non-scheduled" liturgies (funerals, weddings, etc.)
Job Duties / Specific Responsibilities:
- Plans and executes music for all sung Masses (4 per weekend, Holy Days, and as scheduled for Holy Week) as well as special Masses, such as Confirmation
- Provides accompaniment for all sung Masses
- Rehearses and conducts the adult and youth choirs which will sing at Masses on a schedule determined with the Pastor
- Provides music for all weddings and funerals, including all relevant planning with involved parties
- Maintains close working relationship with the Pastor
- Any additional responsibilities at the discretion of the Pastor
- High degree of proficiency in playing the piano/organ
- Demonstrated skill as an effective choral conductor
- Knowledge of the Church’s liturgical and musical tradition
- Ability to work independently to organize and arrange priorities
- Ability to schedule and produce work in a timely manner
- Ability to take initiative and be self-motivated
- Display a positive and professional demeanor with Pastor, parishioners, co-workers and guests
- Regularly spend long hours sitting
- Regularly move from sitting to standing positions effortlessly
- Regularly use hands and fingers to play musical instruments
- Must be able to speak clearly so listeners can understand
- Work Schedule:
The standard work schedule is 12-15 hours weekly with additional hours as needed.
