Custodian/Groundskeeper - Queen of Peace Catholic Church (Mishawaka, IN)

• Completes tasks of regular cleaning of church, parish office, and school facilities.
• Assists with physical set up of parish and school events as needed.
• Assists with landscape maintenance including mowing, weeding, trimming as needed.
• Assists with general exterior maintenance of buildings.
• Participates in the wider mission of the parish through helping to provide a clean, safe, and well-kept facility in which parish activities can take place, while demonstrating Christian charity and positivity.

• Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must have demonstrated experience working independently.
• Experience in operation and maintenance of a variety of custodial equipment, including commercial grade vacuums, shampooers, extractors, auto scrubbers, and burnishers/ buffers is preferred.
• Must have ability to perform a variety of minor maintenance/repairs.
• Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Must have ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Able to establish and maintain effective relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
• The employee is regularly required to use hands to fingers, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.
• The position requires considerable physical effort and is more than 70% of the job functions. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds.

• The work environment varies and includes standard office, maintenance shop, church interior, school building and church/school grounds settings. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate with occasional loud noises.
• The work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes and unpleasant orders.
• The work environment involves some exposure to hazards and physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
