The Director of Music and Liturgy at St John the Baptist Catholic Parish plays a significant role in fostering a vibrant, multi-cultural community that emphasizes the universality of the church. St. John the Baptist church and school is located on a 14-acre property on the west side of South Bend with lots of opportunities for growth. We are also located 4 miles near University of Notre Dame, and 3.8 miles close to Indiana University of South Bend (IUSB) and therefore has available some resources for ongoing ministerial and leadership formation, and musical opportunities. This is a full-time position that aims to engage parishioners and students of all backgrounds: Anglo, Black, and Hispanic through music and active liturgical participation.

- Develop and implement a vision that celebrates the diverse cultural expressions of worship within the parish community.
- Build a vibrant children’s choir and maintain an active presence in the school, ensuring inclusivity in music programs.
- Recruit and coordinate liturgical ministers (sacristans, extra-ordinary ministers of Holy Communion, lectors, and cantors) from various cultural backgrounds for weekend and school Masses, enhancing the richness of the liturgy.
- Carefully plan music for various liturgical celebrations, including weekend Masses, school Masses, Holy Days of Obligation, major feast days, our parish festival, Advent, Christmas, lent and Easter liturgical celebrations, and community events that reflect our diverse congregation.
- Collaborate with parish and school staff to enrich the liturgical life through student programming and multi-cultural ministries.
- Organize events that unite diverse groups, fostering community through shared worship and cultural celebrations.
- Lead rehearsals and provide spiritual mentorship for music ministers, and sacristans, encouraging participation from all cultural backgrounds.
- Manage music equipment’s and maintain a budget, ensuring resources that support the parish’s diverse programs.
- Attend a bi-weekly staff and administration meetings in the church and school.

Qualifications:
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with a commitment to promoting a multi-cultural parish environment.
- Knowledge of a wide range of sacred music traditions: historic and contemporary hymnody from various cultures, choral music, praise and worship, and plain charts.
- Proficiency in choral conducting, and musical instruments with a strong desire to engage children and adults in a warm, supportive environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, staff, and parishioners from diverse backgrounds.
