Director of Mission Advancement
Job Description 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:   To support and promote the mission of Bishop Luers High School by implementing and overseeing development activities necessary to grow the organization and expand the base of financial support from a broad range of sources.

REPORTS TO:  Principal – Bishop Luers High School

RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
1. Strategic Plan Implementation:
  • Maintain and update the five-year development plan in keeping with the mission of the School.
  • Prepare and maintain an annual development and endowment budget and calendar.
  • Create and present development reports and annual report for the administration and board.
2. Grants and Giving:
  • Identify potential major donors – individual, corporate and foundations - cultivate relationships, solicit, and maintain ongoing communication.
  • Implement individual giving campaigns including annual appeals, planned giving and capital campaigns in accordance with annual development plan.
  • Research grant opportunities, cultivate relationships with grant makers and coordinate grant proposals.
  • With the Bishop Luers Advancement Board, assist and advise as needed with communication, development, endowment fund growth and events.
3. Fundraising:
  • Oversee all School fundraising activities to develop a consistent, organized approach.
  • Oversee Luers Knight and other community events.
4. Database Management:
  • Maintain database of community members, donors and school alumni related to development activities and targeted communications.
  • Prepare, send and monitor letters of solicitations for donations and gifts.
  • Generate acknowledgement letters and thank you cards for donations and gifts.
5. Public Relations:
  • Oversee public relations and community relationships for the schools.
  • Produce all materials linked with specific development campaigns.
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship and ongoing communication with Pastors, School staff, administration, committees, school parents, and the community.
  • Develop a network of school alumni class representatives to reach out to other alumni through class reunions and targeted communications.
6. Professional Development:
  • Establish relationships with area Development Directors to share best practices.
  • Seek out professional development institutional advancement to continue to grow the Office of Mission Advancement.
7. Perform other duties related to the position as assigned.

SUPERVISES: Alumni Directors, Director of Communications, Development Committee and other Volunteers.
REQUIRED:  B.S or B.A., 3-5 years of development experience with 1-3 years emphasis in Non-profit or church fundraising preferred. Strong skills in communication, organization preferred. Prefer an active Catholic with demonstrated understanding of parishes and Catholic schools; proficiency in oral and written communication and computer literacy. Must maintain strict levels of confidentiality on all matters relating to School business.
