Holy Cross School is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher for the 2025–2026 school year. This position will cover a leave of absence during the period of approximately January 5, 2026 - March 27, 2026. Exact start and end dates will be dependent upon maternity leave conditions and will be fully explained during the hiring process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Models and integrates Catholic doctrine, values, and morals in instruction and classroom management.

  • Delivers instruction in Jr. High Social Studies (Grades 6-8) in alignment with state and diocesan standards.

  • Follows the full-time teacher’s curriculum and lesson plans, adapting as needed to support student learning.

  • Maintains a structured, faith-filled, engaging learning environment.

  • Uses varied instructional strategies, including hands-on activities, discussions, and formative assessments.

  • Supervises students in the classroom, hallways, lunch room, recess, dismissal, and other assigned areas.

  • Promotes a respectful, responsible, and collaborative classroom culture.

  • Maintains routines and enforces school-wide behavior expectations.

  • Communicates professionally with parents, students, and colleagues as appropriate.

  • Collaborates with support staff and administration to ensure instructional continuity.

  • Follows safety procedures and emergency protocols.

  • Participates in school and faith-based activities as appropriate to the role.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

  • Valid Indiana teaching license or substitute permit required; preference for licensed teachers.

  • Experience teaching Social Studies at the elementary/ middle school level preferred.

  • Practicing Catholic strongly preferred, but not required*

  • Ability to follow lesson plans and maintain instructional continuity.

  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Physically able to supervise students in a classroom and school setting.


Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and operate classroom equipment.

  • May occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
