Job Overview:
The Director of Engineering will serve as the technical lead of our Birmingham office, overseeing the day-to-day operations of all engineering activities. This role is responsible for ensuring that all engineering efforts are aligned with the established policies and objectives of the company. The Director of Engineering will lead a team of skilled engineers and collaborate closely with project managers, clients, and stakeholders to deliver successful projects on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management:
- Lead and mentor the engineering team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee recruitment, training, and development of engineering staff to build a high-performing team.
- Technical Oversight:
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on complex engineering projects, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
- Review and approve engineering designs, plans, and specifications to ensure quality and compliance with project requirements.
- Project Management:
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure engineering projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Monitor project progress and performance, identifying and addressing any issues or risks that may arise.
- Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement engineering strategies and initiatives that align with the company’s goals and objectives.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, technological advancements, and innovation in engineering practices.
- Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and industry partners.
- Represent DCS in meetings, presentations, and conferences, promoting the company’s expertise and capabilities.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant regulations, codes, and standards.
- Implement quality assurance processes to maintain high standards of engineering excellence.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in civil engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong technical expertise in civil engineering design and project management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated experience in building and leading high-performing engineering teams.
