RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Greets and assists all incoming patients, visitors, and physicians in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Obtains and verifies complete demographic and insurance information for every patient encounter.
- Collects applicable patient liabilities, including deductibles and co-payments.
- Refers all uninsured or underinsured patients to the Financial Counselor for assistance.
- Secures authorized signatures on all required forms, including Consent for Treatment, Assignment of Benefits, Medicare notices, and other relevant registration documents.
- Routes admission forms, consents, insurance documentation, and physician orders to the appropriate departments.
- Manages incoming calls promptly and courteously, utilizing professional telephone etiquette.
- Contacts physicians as required and utilizes the overhead paging system as needed.
- Informs appropriate personnel regarding emergency drills, codes, or disaster protocols.
- Maintains an updated directory of physician and hospital contact numbers.
- Maintains strict patient confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA privacy regulations at all times.
- Adheres to the organizational dress code policy along with other BBHS policies.
- Displays company badge at all times while on duty.
- Represents the organization in a professional and appropriate manner.
- Generates and reviews pre-census and final census reports.
- Monitors departmental inventory and requests additional stock as required.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and professional registration area.
- Collaborates closely with staff to ensure the highest level of accuracy in daily operations.
- Facilitates the pre-admission process to streamline patient intake.
- Executes the Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) process in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Participates in the required switchboard rotation.
- Provides coverage and departmental backup for the Front Desk or Emergency Room registration as required.
- Completes inpatient folders and forwards them to the designated clinical areas.
- Manages the ordering and stocking of departmental supplies.
- Conducts Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) reviews and reporting.
- Runs daily census reports to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
- Performs MOON (Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice) audits to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Performs daily cash drawer reconciliation and prepares deposits.
- Reviews written admission sheets to ensure alignment with physician order chronology.
- Prepares necessary departmental copies and documentation daily.
- Performs miscellaneous administrative tasks, including typing and filing, as needed.
- Ensures pre-certification, prior authorization, and benefit information has been secured for designated services.
- Assists patients in understanding their insurance benefits and financial responsibilities.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Patient Registration Supervisor.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers (patients, physicians, visitors, insurance companies, etc.).
- Must have the ability to perform multiple tasks.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Must be a self-starter and work with little to moderate supervision.
- Must be able to maintain good attendance and report to work on time.
