The primary function of the Registered Nurse is to assess, coordinate and evaluate the patient's response to the total nursing care plan and participate in patient and family teaching. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the direction and supervision of all LPN's and CNAs in the administration of nursing care required by the patient(s). This position will cross train to the Nursery department.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Maintains the standard of nursing care and carries out the policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing department.
- Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs, set goals, prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social and rehabilitation needs of the patient, including discharge planning assistance.
- Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patient(s) to the appropriate person and records those observations accurately, concisely, completely and timely.
- Assigns nursing care and other duties to team members in accordance with patient needs and the personnel's capabilities and qualifications.
- Administers patient medications and treatment as prescribed by physician orders.
- Directs, supervises and evaluates nursing care provided to patients.
- Assists physicians with special tests and procedures as needed.
- Orders supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe condition.
- Participates in orientation of new employees as necessary.
- Assists with, or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patient reactions and condition such as cardiac arrest.
- Must hold a current and valid Registered Nurse license in the State of Louisiana.
- Must be able to communicate proficiently, both orally and with written.
- Must have current BLS upon hire.
- ACLS and NRP within 9 months of hire.
- PALS and MOAB preferred.
- Experience in Nursery or Labor and Delivery preferred.
- Cross training to the Nursery will be required
