Position Summary:
The Machine Shop Supervisor role involves supervising a team in the assembly and fabrication of component parts, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost expectations are met. The supervisor will also participate in production scheduling, maintain a safe working environment, and collaborate with various departments to improve processes and resolve issues. Under direction and in collaboration with the Superintendent, supervises union ship workers engaged in machinist duties ensuring accomplishment of assigned work on time and within budget. Enforces safety and environmental regulations. In the absence of the Superintendent, will assume duties and responsibilities as directed by the Production Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead a team in the assembly and manufacturing of component parts, ensuring all safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved
- Participate in production scheduling, maintain a safe and efficient work environment, and collaborate with different departments to resolve issues and improve processes
- Oversee the training and development of production personnel in complex operations
- Manage production schedules and delegate tasks to ensure smooth workflow
- Enforce safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment
- Monitor work distribution to ensure the timely completion of tasks and coordinate with production control
- Set daily, weekly, and monthly goals for the team and effectively communicate objectives
- Ensure the availability of qualified personnel for travel during installations
- Manage budgets and expenses to maintain cost efficiency and control rework and scrap rates
- Collaborate with engineering, programming, planning, purchasing, and quality assurance teams to resolve issues and improve production
- Coordinate and schedule preventive maintenance and equipment calibration
- Develop and track training metrics to ensure staff is properly trained as needed
- Identify and address operational errors, initiating corrective actions with the help of Manufacturing Engineers and Quality Assurance
- Prepare performance evaluations and recommend employee actions.
- Ensure inside machine shop is maintained in a clean and organized manner
- Clean all equipment and shop daily and ensure all tooling, materials, etc are properly stored
- Ensure full compliance with safety and health regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills/Technical Knowledge:
- Excellent communication skills, good attitude and exceptional work ethic
- Supervisory experience in a machine shop or fabrication setting
- Good attitude; must be a team player
- Knowledge of the marine industry and NAVSEA Standards
- Must be flexible in work hours. Evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required based on the needs of the business
- Supervisory experience in a machine shop or fabrication environment
- Minimum five (5) years of ship repair or marine industry experience preferred
- Extensive knowledge of ship repair processes
- Proficient with MS Office programs: Word, Excel, & Outlook and various office tools
- Blueprint and schematic reading/interpretation
- Marine machinist background desired
- Experience with equipment alignment, valve & pump repair, hydraulic systems and troubleshooting, and shipboard systems is a plus
- Ability to plan work according to current and projected needs
- Knowledge of and experience with commercial and military marine/ship standards and specifications
- Shipyard/Industrial Experience valuable
Description of Work Environment:
- Work in heavy industrial/shipyard setting with exposure to heat, cold, and humidity, industrial odors, fumes, gasses, chemicals, oil, grease, smoke, dust, noise, and vibration, and involves climbing ladders and stairs, using pneumatic tools, working in cramped quarters, and working with moving machinery.
- Protective Equipment (PPE) required for this position, including hearing protection, safety glasses, safety boots with metatarsal guards, face shield, welding helmet, welding gloves, welding sleeves/jacket (leather or cloth), and welding apron/chaps. A respirator may also be required.
Qualification/Requirements:
- Must show proof of your legal right to work in the United States
- This position requires US Citizenship due to clearance required for base access
- Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
- Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential to gain access to federally controlled work sites
- All candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening and a background check before employment begins. Failure to complete any of these steps will result in disqualification
- Valid State of Hawaii drivers' license in good standing, class 3 or higher
- Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites on time for the start of shift
