Position: Junior Research Specialist - Europe

Location: Falls Church, VA. (Remote within the Continental US but strong preference will be given to applicants located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.)

The Role: Junior Research Specialists provide basic research and data services. These would include gathering data from open source outlets such as local media and international think-tanks to support larger research efforts and cover unfolding events. The researcher will work to uncover unique information and provide meaningful insights to customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (proportional breakdowns of responsibilities vary):

Compile Research and Data

Research English and foreign language media reporting and social media to compile datasets with a high-degree of attention to detail

Work with research specialists to develop team and user situational awareness of developments in the region

Establish and Maintain Data Standards and Collection Techniques

Coordinate projects with research specialists and team leads to tailor data to user information needs

Update and maintain data structures so they continuously evolve to address the realities of the environment and meet the information needs of the data consumers

Support Automated Data Collection Efforts

Identify opportunities to automate data extraction and support implementation of AI and ML techniques

Required Qualifications:

Attention to detail

High School diploma
-
Experience studying or working on international relations, strategic competition, conflict, development, law enforcement, and/or governance issues

Experience in social science research and data collection

Fluency in English

US citizen
Desired Qualifications:

BA/BS in foreign affairs, international security, area studies, political science, governmental studies, a related field or military experience

Foreign language skills: Russian, Ukrainian, or other Eastern European language

Familiarity with international relations in Europe

Experience with Excel or Google Sheets

Compensation: The expected initial salary for this role is $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, certifications, geographic location, and organizational needs. Individual compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
