Human Resources Director
Position SummaryThe Human Resources Director is a senior leadership role responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive human resources strategy that supports the Firm’s operational, administrative, and people objectives. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position oversees core HR functions including policy administration, recruiting, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and training across all offices, and provides leadership and oversight of the Firm’s secretarial and office services staff. This position is based in Tulsa, and work cannot be performed remotely.
The Director partners closely with Firm leadership to ensure HR practices are efficient, compliant, and aligned with business goals, while fostering a workplace culture grounded in respect, accountability, and open communication.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities
Human Resources Strategy & Policy
- Lead the development, implementation, and consistent application of HR policies and procedures across the Firm.
- Maintain and administer the Employee Handbook in consultation with Firm employment lawyers.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Firm policies in consultation with Firm employment lawyers.
- Recommend and implement policy enhancements aligned with best practices and organizational needs.
- Assist the Executive Director and Firm leadership with administrative tasks as requested.
Recruiting & Staffing
- Oversee recruiting and staffing for administrative and support roles across all offices in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Denver and Northwest Arkansas.
- Develop and standardize recruiting processes, tools, and best practices.
- Partner with Firm leadership and committees on attorney recruitment and lateral hiring.
- Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a consistent and positive employee experience for lawyers and staff.
- Manage temporary staffing resources and vendor relationships.
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees on employee relations matters.
- Coordinate the assignment and scheduling of secretaries, ensuring that workloads are properly balanced and that attorneys are served in a responsive manner.
- Foster a culture of respect, accountability, and open communication across the Firm.
- Address and resolve employee concerns with professionalism, discretion, and fairness.
- Develop and implement initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
- Promote a workplace environment where employees feel heard, appreciated, and connected to the Firm’s mission.
Compensation & Performance Management
- Assist in the development and administration of compensation strategies for administrative and support staff.
- Conduct compensation benchmarking and market analysis.
- Oversee annual performance review processes for non-legal staff.
- Review administrative support staff time sheets each pay period.
- Support attorney and legal assistant evaluation processes in collaboration with Firm committees.
Employee Benefits
- Oversee administration of all employee benefit programs, including health, dental, retirement, and disability plans.
- Evaluate benefit offerings with Executive Director for competitiveness and cost-effectiveness.
- Serve as liaison with benefit providers and third-party administrators.
- Coordinate the annual open enrollment and employee communications regarding benefits.
Training & Organizational Development
- Identify and implement training and professional development programs for office and administrative support staff.
- Facilitate quarterly staff meetings for secretaries and administrative staff for training and discussion of Firm policies and procedures.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
Payroll & HR Operations
- Support payroll administration in coordination with the Executive Director.
- Maintain accurate HR records and reporting systems.
- Ensure operational efficiency and compliance in all HR processes.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly oversee a team of approximately 25 employees, including:
- HR executive assistant
- Secretarial staff
- Office services and reception team
- Training & library services specialist
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to administrative teams.
- Ensure effective workload distribution, team performance, and professional development.
Required Qualifications
- 5-10 years of human resources experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent professional experience).
- Strong knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and employee relations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and influence across all levels of an organization.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to other office locations (Oklahoma City, Denver, Northwest Arkansas).
