The Dean of Students is responsible for overseeing the disciplinary and attendance systems at Bishop Luers High School. The Dean reports directly to the school principal. Job responsibilities include:
  • Supervising detentions, Friday Schools, and other disciplinary details
  • Working with students who receive multiple detentions/discipline points
  • Tracking student discipline infractions and points
  • Handling students as they are referred to the office
  • Following up with students who have behavioral problems
  • Working with SST meetings for students who have behavioral issues in the RTI process
  • Establishing and following through with students on behavior and/or attendance contracts
  • Monitoring hallways, restrooms, parking lot, and locker rooms on a regular basis
  • Monitoring and supervising staff duties in the cafeteria 
  • Conducting searches, with an administrative witness
  • Communicating with parents regarding behavioral problems, tardiness, and poor attendance
  • Preparing reports for the principal as needed
  • Meeting regularly with administration to discuss student progress, etc.
  • Referring students to guidance counselors as needed
  • Supervising home varsity football and basketball games
  • Serving on the crisis team and assisting with school safety drills and efforts
  • Overseeing/supervising student events (Homecoming, Christmas dance, Prom)
  • Following through on student issues related to dress code
  • Serving on a SIP standing committee
  • Attending weekly administration meetings
  • Convening Disciplinary Review Board meetings as needed
  • Maintaining student disciplinary records, including Power School Log Entries
  • Updating and clarifying student handbooks annually
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal

Candidates must possess:
  • Valid Indiana teachers license
  • Must be a practicing Catholic
  • have a minimum of five years of high school teaching experience
  • have excellent organizational abilities
  • have strong writing and speaking skills
A Master's Degree and an Indiana Administrative License is preferred.
