Bishop Luers High School is searching for a licensed Special Education teacher to oversee a growing department and assume the responsibilities of department chair.

Job description -- Special Education Department Chair

This student-centered position supports and manages the entire Special Education program at Bishop Luers High School.

This candidate will assist students with accommodations in the following ways:
  • The resource room should be open to all students as need is determined by teachers.
  • Write and be ready to implement curriculum for Basic Skills, Life Skills, and Vocational Skills for 2024-2025.
  • Assess students for individual growth, needs, etc..
  • Document and keep a portfolio for students in the event that is needed to show growth and skill mastery for waivers.
  • Organize and maintain classroom and standardized test data on enrolled special education students and those with ILPs.
Managerial Responsibilities:
  • Attend 8th grade transition conferences for incoming students.
  • Collaborate with counselors and administration on paraprofessional schedules.
  • Supervise resource teachers and paraprofessionals.
  • Run department meetings
  • Collaborate with all departments and teachers on special education needs for their students.
  • Organize and administer reading and math assessments to special education students and those on ILPs. 
  • Attend restraint training professional development.
  • Collaborate with counselors and administration on CAPs and ILPs.
  • Work with counselors on the organization of testing for ISP and ILP students; assist as needed.
  • Administer/proctor tests for ISP/ILP students as needed.
  • Attend parent meetings as needed.
  • Consult with FWCS representatives as needed.
  • Attend ISP case conferences.
  • Help with administering WIDA testing for ELL students as needed.
  • Administer/proctor 8th grade HSPT on a designated date for students with ISPs.
  • Submit purchase requests to the principal for special education purchases as needed.
  • Lead PLC meetings on special education best practices and RTI training.
  • Consult with departments on accommodations and best practices.
  • Conduct annual evaluation on classroom aides.
  • Conduct one walk-through observation (minimum) on resource teachers each quarter.
