The Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma (“The Alliance”) is Oklahoma’s oldest and largest oil and natural gas trade association. It is the only trade association in Oklahoma that represents every segment of oil and natural gas, allowing the industry to speak with one voice when advocating for the interests of its members, landowner partners, host communities, and every Oklahoman whose life is touched by this great industry. The organization’s goal is to enhance Oklahoma’s economy for future generations and make the state a destination for capital investment from the upstream, midstream and downstream segments of the energy industry.

The president is the chief executive officer and primary ambassador of The Alliance, serving as the external voice and face of the industry to the legislative, regulatory bodies, and general public. The president is tasked with providing strong leadership for the organization and industry by working with the board to establish short and long-term goals, plans and strategies. The individual is highly skilled in media relations, issue advocacy, government affairs, association management, grassroots organizing and fundraising.

CORE TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
External:
  • Serve as an Ambassador for The Alliance. Be the face and voice of the oil and natural gas industry in Oklahoma to the legislative, regulatory bodies, and general public.
  • Engage and maintain a strong presence at the Oklahoma Legislature.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, government (state, local and federal), community leaders, and business organizations to advance the goals and objectives of The Alliance; and the media in all forms to maximize association presence on various channels (e.g., TV, digital, and social media).
  • Serve as the liaison between The Alliance members, government officials and local leaders to advocate for the best interest of the industry.

Internal:
  • Plan, develop, organize, direct, and evaluate The Alliance’s overall function, employees, and performance.
  • Work with the Chairman, the Executive Committee, and the Board of Directors to be responsive to the needs of The Alliance as to current oil and gas industry issues, and determine and implement the short- and long-term organizational goals for the Alliance.
  • Lead the development and implementation of The Alliance’s strategic vision with events, programs, and fundraising efforts.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive budget and compliant financial management practices.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures of The Alliance that improve the overall operation and effectiveness of The Alliance.
    • Streamline events, focus all regulatory and legislative efforts on association’s end goals.
    • Determine what The Alliance does best and put all energy/effort into those events/ideas.
    • Spearhead messaging of The Alliance’s agenda throughout ALL meetings, events, and opportunities.
  • Establish credibility throughout The Alliance as an effective developer of solutions to legislative, regulatory, and communications challenges.
    • Liaise and communicate with the Chairman, the Executive Committee, and the Board of Directors on a routine basis regarding policy proposals and short- and long-term planning.
  • Champion the organization and advocate its mission to internal and external stakeholders by development of effective communications strategies and techniques that promote the organization and its priorities, programs, and activities.
  • Improve The Alliance’s bottom line on a continual basis; educate and engage the vice presidents and staff on financial issues impacting the budget.
  • Keep organization’s leadership informed of significant developments in the internal and external environment.
  • Ensure legal compliance (including all required filings) and sound risk management practices.
  • Implement a long-term planning process for The Alliance.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years of Executive experience
  • Working knowledge of the oil and natural gas industry
  • Working knowledge of the political landscape in Oklahoma
  • Highly skilled in media relations, issue advocacy, government affairs, association management, grassroots organizing and fundraising.
  • Experience as a leader and strategic thinker
  • Experience using position-relevant software

Reporting Structure
The president reports directly to the Chairman and the Executive Committee of The Alliance.
