Position Overview
Are you a strategic fleet services leader? Do you combine hands-on mechanical expertise with vendor partnership finesse and organizational efficiency? As Fleet Supervisor/Technician, you’ll report directly to the Operations Director. With primary responsibility for vehicle repair and maintenance operations, you’ll ensure that both scheduled and unscheduled services are performed with excellence. You’ll have the opportunity to build a fleet that meets the highest standards of reliability, safety and compliance. You’ll play a pivotal role in a company that knows that our fleet merits our best efforts and resources.This is a working supervisor position with about 35% hands-on mechanic work, based in Upper Marlboro, MD, and Rockville, MD.

Key Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Trade school related to fleet services completion or minimum T1 and T2 ASE certification
  • At least 1 year of experience as a lead technician or fleet supervisor
  • At least 3 years of experience as a technician for Medium/Heavy gasoline and diesel vehicles
  • Ability to perform inspections and repairs related to: oil changes & fluid replenishments, suspensions & steering, tires, engine, transmission, heating and air conditioning, disk brake systems, air brake systems, hydraulics, refuse bodies, drivetrain and diesel emissions
  • Proficiency with vehicle procurement processes and 3rd party vendor relations
  • Knowledge of DOT/EPA/OSHA requirements
  • Ability to establish and administer systems

Other Helpful Background

  • Associate degree or equivalent
  • Certified ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician (T2 through T8)
  • Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License
  • Experience with Refuse vehicles
  • Experience with Ford vehicles

Responsibilities

  • Departmental planning and expense management

    • Propose fleet growth plan

    • Manage fleet budget

    • Track fleet expenses

    • Research, source and recommend purchase of vehicles

  • Fleet administration and compliance

    • Ensure vehicle tracking software and safety devices operate properly

    • Manage driver vehicle inspection reporting (DVIR) system  

    • Implement vehicle parts catalog system and manage its inventory

    • Administer vehicle registrations, permits and other regulatory tasks

  • Vendor relations

    • Select and manage fleet vendors

    • Manage vendor performance

    • Negotiate vendor performance and bills

  • Mechanical maintenance

    • Create and implement preventive maintenance schedule for entire fleet

    • Perform inspections and repairs related to oil changes & fluid replenishments, suspensions & steering, tires, engine, transmission, heating and air conditioning, disc brake systems, air brake systems, hydraulics, refuse bodies, drivetrain and diesel emission

    • Complete or arrange for completion of emergency repairs
