Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Student/Recent Graduate - Aerospace Components

Primary Purpose:
Non-Destructive Testing applicant will be considered for Penetrant and X-Ray functions in an aerospace manufacturing environment. Applicants must be a current or recent student in a Career in Technical Education (CTE) Non-Destructive Testing program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Learn Darkroom film processing practices.
- Work in darkroom using ultra-violet light and mark castings for weld repair.
- Help X-Ray shooters and inspector’s process and inspect parts.
- Accurately and efficiently set-up X-ray shots following technique card specifications.
- Make fixtures to hold parts in position when shooting film.
- Serializing parts for identification.
- Assist in Penetrant inspection functions including calibration, testing, and inspection.
- Run castings through penetrant line process.
- Keep Penetrant Department clean and orderly.
- Work in darkroom using ultra-violet light and mark castings for weld repair.
- May be required to operate hand grinder to remove minor defects.
- Monitor cleaning equipment.
- Other Non-Destructive Testing duties as assigned.
- Applicant must be part of a Career in Technical Education Non-Destructive Testing program in their first, second year, or graduate.
- The physical effort applied in this job includes lifting, pulling, reaching, manipulating, carrying, pushing, and shoveling.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Good attendance record required.
- Able to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Compliance with general company policies and procedures is required.
- In good standing with the educational institution attending.
- HS diploma or equivalent GED required, but candidates not meeting this requirement who possesses relevant experience will be considered.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Solid job history including more than 1 year at previous or recent employer preferred.
- Must be willing to undergo a pre-employment background check.
- Must be willing to participate in pre-employment and periodic drug screening.
- Exposure to dust, dirt, heat, cold, noise, and vibration.
- Frequently working near moving mechanical parts.
- Exposure to dust dirt fumes, noise and chemicals including acetone, penetrant, and developer. The work is typically performed under reasonably good working conditions; while exposure to any or all of the mentioned elements may occur, such exposure is generally not present to the extent of being disagreeable.
- The job is under manufacturing working conditions; exposure to any or all of the mentioned elements is likely, with at least one present to the extent of being disagreeable.
- Flexible if current student including part-time. Full-time for candidates who are recent graduates.
- Must be flexible with schedule outside of class hours.
Expectations:
AT CPP, we recognize that the intern is not the normal hourly employee. The student is learning and we are providing a safe, inviting place to begin a career in NDT. We will ensure that the intern has direct oversight by a CPP Level III. We will ensure that the NDT Manager oversees the student’s progress through the program. We will limit work time to a maximum of 20 hours per week while class is in session at LBCC. This work will be on dayshift and schedule will be adjusted to align with the students’ class schedule. We may offer up to 40 hours per week in the summer months when class is not in session, if the plants have work available and the student is interested.
General Structure of Program:
This is a guide for the general structure of the program to be modified as needed to fit individual intern’s requests and business needs. Time should be split between Selmet and PCT with specific assignments determined by the NDT Manager.
It will be possible to gain Level I and II in FPI and Radiography, depending on hours committed.
- Attain Visual and Dimensional certification - 2 months
- Attain FPI Level 1 certification - 2 months
- Work side by side with FPI level II, attaining certification - 3 months
- Work in Darkroom - 1 month
- Attain Radiography Level 1 certification in both film and digital – attempt to keep student with one shooter in the beginning for consistency, learn defect mapping - 4 months
- Work side by side with Xray level II in both film and digital, attempt to keep student with one reader in the beginning for consistency, log OTJ hours towards certification - 6 months
