Lab Supervisor - Aerospace Components

Job Summary:
The primary function of this position is to develop and manage a team of metallurgical and chemical laboratory technicians servicing Production to ensure conforming product and manufacturing processes for Titanium Castings. The Lab Supervisor is ultimately responsible for ensuring testing and certifications comply to all regulatory and customer requirements while meeting production schedules.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage personnel, assign work, conduct performance reviews and oversee training.
- Comply with all federal and customer regulatory requirements.
- Assist in drafting procedures to meet ASTM, NADCAP and customer requirements.
- Participates in all laboratory customer and NADCAP audits as technical subject matter expert.
- Conduct or supervise tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality.
- Develop and implement new test methods and process systems when required.
- Qualify new equipment or test methods when required.
- Maintain all customer required proficiency and Round Robin testing.
- Maintain all applicable records associated with the laboratory in QMS database.
- Maintain oversight to ensure that lab PM’s and calibrations are identified and completed on time.
Safety:
- Responsible for completion of Accident Investigation forms for any incidents in department.
- Responsible for implementation of safety countermeasures and doing root cause analysis to determine appropriate safety changes that are needed to improve plant safety.
- Responsible to adhere to all site safety policies and procedures.
- Provide safety training and awareness within the laboratory.
Quality:
- Responsible to ensure standardized work is in place for all processes and adherence to quality process.
- Responsible for building and improving processes that make a quality product.
- Responsible for prevention of defects and scraps.
- Lead, support and plan improvement using Systematic Problem Solving.
- Establish training plan and targets for critical jobs.
- Provide and oversee training and cross training plans.
Productivity:
- Establish the standard condition and ensure quality throughput through respective area.
- Provide metrics and testing status to other departments (Shipping, Planning, Operations)
- Manage staffing levels and requirements.
Cost:
- Propose equipment needs for capital project implementations and may also participate in project implementation.
Team Building:
- Ensure compliance with HR Policies and practices.
- Resolve employee performance issues.
- Responsible for discipline issues including attendance, employee relations, and violations of company policies.
- Responsible for accurate employee time keeping utilizing E-time, tracking of attendance points and vacations.
- Develop employees for future positions.
- Responsible for performance reviews of direct reports.
Minimum Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a metals lab environment preferred. Experience in a leadership role preferred.
- Knowledge of metallurgical and chemical lab equipment operation and test analysis.
Working Conditions:
- Office Environment and lab
- Sitting/Standing for extended periods of time, able to lift up to 20lbs, extended periods of time using a computer screen.
- Travel Requirements: 5-10% (some travel between Selmet and PCT labs)
