Primary Purpose:
The Safety Engineer performs, under limited supervision, administrative and technical clerical duties for the Environmental Health and Safety Department (EHS).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Daily frequent interaction with employees at all levels of the organization for daily audits and inspections of programs, equipment, and behavioral safety; documentation and follow-up.
- Scheduling and coordinating all safety training and program-related medical evaluations.
- Real time data management of a large number of spreadsheets to track safety and calculations.
- Train employees on basic safety training topics such as forklift, fall protection, lockout tag out, confined space, etc.
- Updates Safety Data Sheets.
- Various Safety supply inventory inspection
- Researches supplies and submits purchase order requests; ensures proper items received and works with Procurement Department.
- Performs various other administrative support functions as requested; follows and expedites orders and types department reports, track laboratory analysis and performs sampling.
- Assist with matching up and monitoring light duty assignments.
- Coordinate Safety Committee meetings and other meetings.
- Assist or leads in constructing correspondence to both internal and external customers, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
- Assists or leads in conducting incident investigations and reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Performing Health Sampling & Ergonomic Assessments
- Lead Investigations of injuries and incidents using root cause analysis methods. Recommend, track, and follow up to verify the implementation of corrective actions.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a safety-related field (Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Toxicology, Bio-Engineering, Public Health, etc.) Experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
- 5+ years of experience performing Occupational Safety and/or Industrial Hygiene duties, performing health and safety risk assessments, developing, and managing safety programs, and performing audits in an industrial environment.
- Ability to type at least 55 words per minute.
- Ability to prioritize workload and communicate effectively with all levels.
- Must be assertive, diplomatic, and logical.
- HS diploma or equivalent GED required, but candidates not meeting this requirement who possesses relevant experience will be considered.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Solid job history including more than 1 year at previous or recent employer.
- Must be willing to undergo a pre-employment background check.
- Must be willing to participate in pre-employment and periodic drug screening.
Preferred:
- OSHA related technical certifications.
- Trackable history of math and basic science skill demonstration.
Working Conditions:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate but the employee will be exposed to higher noise levels when required to be in manufacturing areas. The work is generally performed in an office setting, but the individual will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, machinery, and vehicles when in the manufacturing areas.
Schedule:
- Full-time.
- Overtime is offered based on business needs.
