St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church – Fort Wayne, IN

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton is looking for a full-time Maintenance Technician.
Working hours are generally Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week.


Primary Function:

General janitorial and maintenance of facilities and grounds.  Opening and securing of facilities.  Monitors radio transmissions for maintenance and janitorial needs throughout the day. Keeps grounds free of trash and safety hazards such as snow and ice accumulations reporting necessary items to supervisor.

Major Areas of Responsibility:
 
  1. General janitorial and maintenance care of the school. 
  2. Recommend the purchase and maintain supply levels of janitorial and maintenance supplies.
  3. Maintaining logs on boilers, inspections and fire equipment.
  4. Monitors daily radio traffic to ensure the safety and cleanliness.
  5. Open the facilities and secure doors as necessary to maintain safety of students and parishioners.
  6. Meet with vendors and allow access for deliveries as necessary.

Specific Responsibilities:
 
  1. Set up for events, ensure that bathrooms are clean and have sufficient supplies.
  2. Respond to calls on the radio for immediate needs in classrooms, bathrooms, or other areas as necessary.
  3. Check trash containers inside and outside facility, remove trash as needed and dispose of in proper receptacle, and monitor outside grounds for trash and debris.
  4. Spot check carpets for vacuuming and cleaning after events.
  5. Strip, maintain, repair, clean various floor surfaces throughout facility
  6. Paint, repair and maintain drywall areas within the facilities. 
  7. In winter ensure the walks and steps are shoveled and salted at appropriate times
  8. Recommend inspections for fire equipment/smoke alarms and rodents.
  9. Knowledge of cleaning compounds, insect control solutions, and their chemical effects on surfaces, materials, and textiles and knowledge on use in a school. 
  10. Repair and maintain toilets, sinks, waste disposals, water fountains, small equipment and proper care of housekeeping equipment as needed.
  11. Build, repair, and maintain classroom furniture as needed.
  12. Monitors HVAC units in facility and changes air filters in units.
  13. Repair minor electrical issues, such as ballasts, outlets, etc
  14. Monitor pond loop levels.
  15. Meets with and monitors work of outside contractors as requested by Supervisor.
  16. Communicates maintenance and repair issues both major and minor to the Supervisor. 
  17. Other responsibilities as assigned


Qualifications:
  1. Standing and walking for 6-8 hours a day
  2. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
  3. Ability to climb ladders.
  4. Ability to work with chemicals, exposure to dust, exposure slippery and uneven walking surfaces, and other factor that may prove to be hazardous.
  5. Basic knowledge of most trades.
  6. Some nights and weekends may be necessary to meet facility needs, such as planned large facility events or weather and as directed by supervisor.
  7. Basic computer knowledge is needed for communication and performance of certain job functions, such as Microsoft Office, work order system, HVAC control system, key-fob system, and others.
  8. Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to understand, relay, and follow instructions, and use critical thinking skills on a daily basis. 
  9. Ability to work well with staff and volunteers in a team environment or independently and to self-monitor stress levels in ever changing and fast-paced environment.
  10. Required to work in various climate conditions. 
  11. Must be able to publicly follow all tenants of the Catholic faith.
