Director of Sacred Music (Elkhart, IN)
St. Thomas Catholic Church is seeking an experienced and dedicated Director of Sacred Music to support our worship of God. The ideal candidate will be focused on fostering a spirit of reverence in the liturgy and leading the People of God with song and voice.
Our organ is a recently refurbished 25-rank, mechanical-action pipe organ built by Russell & Co. The parish primarily uses Gather, 3rd Edition. We will be looking to replace this in the near future.
Responsibilities:
The Director should be proficient in organ and piano and is entrusted with all aspects of the sacred music program, including planning the music for three weekend Masses (and covering the Sunday evening Mass as needed), Holy Days, and the weekly school Mass. The Director is also responsible for planning and playing for funerals, weddings, and the occasional quinceanera, which are compensated by additional stipends.
The Director should be able to conduct and direct a choir, providing leadership and guidance in vocal and instrumental rehearsals.
The Director should be knowledgeable of Catholic liturgical traditions and understand the General Instruction of the Roman Missal.
Other Qualifications:
* Committed to living the Catholic faith
* Proficiency in sight-reading and improvisation
* Proficiency in choral conducting; leading choir rehearsals
* Commitment to required rehearsal preparation and rehearsal time of music selections
* Ability to schedule and rehearse cantors for weekend Masses
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in music or sacred music, Master’s degree in sacred music preferred; candidates with significant experience will be considered in lieu of educational requirements
Salary Range: commensurate with experience and qualifications, minimum $55,000 plus benefits.
