Position: Refugee Services Case Manager

FSLA Status: Full Time, Non-exempt

Position Summary: The Refugee Services Case Manager provides day to day required services related to the agency’s resettlement and job development programs to meet the needs of refugees resettling in the South Bend area.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Provides case management services to clients to address their needs in the areas of housing, health care, financial needs, education, transportation, interpretation, and other issues related to daily living needs and cultural integration.
  • Conducts intakes and prepares associated documentation for the following programs: Reception & Placement, Match Grant, Refugee Support Services, and Afghan Program
  • Develops and implements service plans to address specific refugee needs and clearly communicates expectations to clients, building a trusted relationship.
  • Works collaboratively with community resources in making appropriate referrals to meet the needs of clients, including children, adolescents, and older adults. This includes FSSA, WIC, SSI, health clinics and the Social Security office as needed.
  • Provide employment support concerning employment needs and skill development including creating a resume, submitting applications, connecting with employers, accompanying clients to an interview, on-boarding, and post-placement support, as needed.
  • Teach cultural orientation and job readiness classes for refugees, as needed.
  • Completes and maintains required documentation in physical files and digital systems, in accordance with the policies and procedures of the agency and the programs.
  • Keep up to date case notes and accurate information on Client Track on each case.
  • Submit timely reports on MRIS system.
  • Prepares accurate and timely paperwork to provide financial assistance for cases. Manage client budget and spending.
  • Works in conjunction with other staff members to provide services to clients including airport pickups, housing moves and set up, volunteer coordination, and donation management.
  • Assist as necessary with housing moves.
  • Provide interpretation for clients.
  • Provides client advocacy when necessary.
  • Complies with all grant, funding, and audit requirements for the program.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in social services or related degree and case management experience.
  • Knowledgeable about refugee resettlement and services.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability to provide effective service to multi-need families and individuals. Ability to work independently and effectively to provide services with limited supervision.
  • Ability to effectively represent the agency in public situations involving services rendered.
  • Ability to drive clients as needed to various service visits.
  • Knowledge of public and private social service providers within the community.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Respect for Catholic social teaching and Catholic Church doctrine required.
  • Preference will be given to individuals who are bilingual in English and one or more of the following languages: Spanish, French, Ukrainian, Russian, Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Swahili, Lingala, Farsi, Urdu, Kiswahili, Kinyamulenge.                   

Conditions Of Employment:
  • Have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • If your position requires you to transport clients, staff members, or volunteers with your personal vehicle as needed, it is required that you have a reliable vehicle with personal vehicle liability insurance coverage per person and per occurrence.
  • If your position does not require you to transport clients, staff members, or volunteers with your personal vehicle, or such transportation is restricted to use of agency vehicles, your personal vehicle liability insurance coverage must be at least per person and per occurrence.
  • Successful completion of federal and state background checks
  • Successful completion of child welfare screening
  • Successful completion of drug and Mantoux (TB) screens
