Directs and supervises nursing service functions and activities throughout the hospital; implements and interprets policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for personnel, patients, medical staff and the public.  Ensures compliance with Joint Commission standards.
Performs duties in any nursing capacity as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Economic Results: Prepares work schedules and assigns personnel; adjust staffing levels to meet overall needs of the hospital and provide for adequate coverage of the units.

2. Human Resources: Promotes cooperation of the staff to achieve department objectives and maintain good department relations.

3. Maintain established department policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvements activities, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

4. 
Provides performance feedback that supports employee development through self-appraisal and formal supervisor appraisal of performance.

5. 
Assures that appropriate teamwork is practiced.

Admits patients and arranges emergency operations and other services.
 
6. Receives and reviews preceding shift reports and floor nurse reports; makes complete rounds of all units and notes patients’ condition.

Assists patients and families as needed in times of stress or crisis.

Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed.

9. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

 1.  Must hold a current and valid Registered Nurse license in the State Of Louisiana.
 2.  Must be able to communicate proficiently, both orally and with written.
 3.  Must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as per cents, doses,
      volumes,  and proportions.  Basic concepts of algebra and geometry required.
 4.  Must have the ability to reason and solve practical problems and manage a variety of
      situations only limited standardization exists.  Must have the ability to interpret a
      variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
 5.  Must have current CPR, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications, based on their   position.
