The Occupational Therapist provides the maximum level of total patient care for inpatient and outpatients.  The Therapist also serves as the swing bed program's patient activity coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Prepares work schedules, assigns personnel, evaluates work performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Assists in developing departmental budgets.
  • Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
  • Ensures the delivery of quality occupational therapy services for inpatients and outpatients by identifying patient needs and developing quality occupational therapy programs.
  • Consults with medical, nursing and administrative staff on a regular basis to coordinate patient care.
  • Assists in training occupational therapy students.
  • Communicates observations, facts and comments with interdisciplinary team members, individually, and through team meeting presentations as is appropriate.
  • Conducts internal training programs for medical and nursing staff on occupational therapy techniques and objectives.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, workshops, and in-service meetings, etc.
  • Develops treatment plans for patients. Monitors progress and treatment level
  • Maintains personnel, professional and institutional certification and regulatory requirements by attending conferences, committee meetings, personal development and attending outside educational programs.
  • Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports, and other such reports.
  • Performs duties of an Occupational Therapist as required.

  • Performs assessment of the swing bed patient’s individual interests and needs. 
  • Will monitor and over see participation in the activities by activity staff. 

IV        JOB SKILLS:
  • Registered Occupational Therapist.
  • License and registration as required in the State Of Louisiana.
  • Previous experience as a staff occupational therapist, preferred
