The primary function of the CLS/Technical Consultant is to process specimen samples, perform various laboratory tests, and report test results per policy and procedures.  The CLS/TC also is designated as Quality Coordinator of the Laboratory to review QC, Calibrations, along with other duties assigned by the Laboratory Director. The CLS performs only tests that are authorized by the Laboratory Director and require a degree of skill commensurate with his or her education, training, and/or experience and technical abilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
  • Follows laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Adhere to the lab’s QC policies, document all QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
  • Follow the lab’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the lab’s defined acceptable levels of performance.
  • Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problem or immediately notify the lab manager.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the lab’s established performance specifications.
DESIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, or Chemistry, Biology, or biological sciences.
  • Must be ASCP certified or AMT.
  • At least five (5) years Laboratory experience in a hospital.
  • Must be proficient in Blood Bank.
  • Current licensure in the state of Louisiana.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must have good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Must maintain annual licensure requirements for continued education.
