A Direct Support Professional position in Community Support provides an excellent opportunity for a creative and energetic person to work with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in all areas of daily living skills and community involvement.  Direct Support Professional positions are in a number of program areas, including residential (group homes), respite, Day Habilitation, and in Community Support for people who live on their own or with their families.  A Direct Support Professional provides supervision, support and training to consumers in the program area they are assigned.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Provides assistance with activities of daily living
  • Provides individual training to and supervises individuals or groups of individuals in performing therapeutic activities that foster greater independence
  • Coordinates individual and group activities in the community and/or in a group home or respite facility
  • Maintains records of consumers’ participation in and responses to training, treatment and everyday activities
  • Prepares materials for therapeutic activities and maintains an adequate supply of materials
  • Responds to consumer health issues as needed and directed through individual plans of care
  • Provides a safe environment for consumers when in their care including behavioral as well as medical issues
  • Performs related work as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Essential Functions

  • Excellent written communication  and computer keyboarding for inputting documentation
  • Excellent verbal/telephone communication with consumers, staff, and community providers
  • Organizational and filing skills and time management needed for maintaining records
  • Stooping, bending, sitting, standing for prolonged periods and lifting 50-75 pounds
  • Ability to be CPR and PMAB certified
  • Valid driver's license, liability insurance, and reliable transportation required

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 6 months work experience with individuals with developmental disabilities strongly preferred
  • Valid Driver's License and proof of Liability Insurance Required

Hours: May vary depending on shift.  
Shifts available Days, Evenings, Nights and Weekends

Salary: $18,740.80 Annual/$9.01 Hourly
Extra pay for night and weekend shifts.
