Under the immediate supervision of Youth Crisis Outreach Team Program Director, provides Peer Support Specialist work. Work involves providing information to clients in crisis, as well as providing emotional support, experienced guidance, and problem-solving assistance in an effort to strengthen the client’s recovery.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Per referral from Case Managers, Therapists, Skills Trainers, and/or other Treatment Team
    members, Peer Support Specialist meets with clients served in the YCOT program to provide experienced advice and guidance concerning crisis services and mental health services in general.
  • Under the supervision of the YCOT Program Director, provides emotional support to YCOT clients struggling to meet their unique and personal challenges.
  • Participates as a team member in conferences designed for the diagnosis and treatment of     clients.
  • Assists youth in identifying barriers and problems as well as in problem solving.
  • On behalf of child/adolescent/family/caregiver(s), acts as liaison and advocate with appropriate agencies, physicians, schools, employers, etc.
  • Consults and meets with other YCOT staff regularly.
  • Increases knowledge and skills through attendance of outside conferences and seminars whenever
    possible.
  • May provide transportation to clients or caregivers.
  • Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Essential Functions

  • Excellent written communication  and computer keyboarding for inputting clinical documentation
  • Excellent verbal communication with clients, staff, and community providers
  • Time management required to meet service goals
  • Local travel using Center vehicle
  • Stooping, bending, sitting, standing, keyboarding for prolonged periods, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to be CPR and PMAB certified
  • Valid driver's license and liability insurance required. 25% local travel.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED Required
  • Must have been treated in behavioral  health system for at least one year and have a level of  stability and recovery that facilitates participation in the treatment and recovery of other mental health consumers (Please give some information to evidence this either on application or in cover letter)
  • Certified Peer Provider Preferred

Hours: 40 Hours Week Mon-Fri 8A-5P

Salary: $10.00 hourly/$20,800 annually
