EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
- Facilitate evidence-based substance use and misuse prevention and mental health curriculum.
- Deliver presentations at schools and community sites about how to live healthy and productive lives.
- Conduct awareness campaigns to reduce the use and misuse of alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, prescription drugs, and other substances.
- Participate in community events for families.
- Help lead a summer program for students.
- Responsible for accurate completion of monthly reports and other documentation related to the progress of participants in the program.
GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in mental health or substance use, education, communications, social work, psychology or related field preferred.
- Certified Prevention Specialist designation preferred, but not mandatory
- Two years' experience working with youth in chemical dependency prevention, intervention, or treatment setting. One year of experience working with families is preferred for family programs.
- Must maintain a valid Drivers' License, have proof of automobile insurance and maintain a safe driving record.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Prefer experience with alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs, and prevention services.
- Passionate about working with children, youth, and families from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Good written and verbal skills with an ability and desire to speak effectively before groups of children and adults
- Basic knowledge of computers, relevant software, and use of technology.
- MUST complete Associate Prevention Specialist or Certified Prevention Specialist Certification within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to effectively manage classroom or group while presenting educational curriculum
- Utilize evidence-based curriculum as designated by the program contract for youth and families.
- Coordinate and facilitate activities to include arts and craft projects, alternative activities, sports activities, field trips and more.
- Prepares and facilitates groups with individuals, families, and the public.
- Conducts pre-screen and post-screen assessments according to program contract.
- Provides referrals as needed.
- Attends all meetings according to program needs.
- Supervises youth in all program activities.
- Adheres to the professional standards established by Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network.
- Other duties as assigned.
