Under the general supervision of the VP of Agricultural Operations, the Harvest Manager is responsible for all aspects of daily field harvest operations to ensure that production goals are met.  Ensure accurate harvest estimates completed on a timely basis and provided to cross functional leadership staff for review in weekly meeting. Harvest Manager will supervise organicgirl employees as well as oversee harvest activities provided by Contracted Harvesters. Select new Contracted Harvesters and replace those that under perform. Coordinate harvest activities in transitions to seasonal areas.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (other duties may be assigned as needed):
  1. Responsible for all aspects of daily field operations to ensure that production goals are met.  This includes correct quantity, quality, and post-harvest handling on all product until it leaves the field.
  2. Ensure compliance with organicgirl internal food safety and quality standards.
  3. Maintain a safe work environment for organicgirl employees. Drives proactive safety programs and ensures organicgirl employees are compliant with legal and regulatory requirements such as OSHA and Work Safety protocols.
  4. Will obtain training records from Contracted Harvesters to verify their Harvesting Crew(s) have been trained in all required safety and regulatory compliance protocols.
  5. Will hire, train, and discipline organicgirl employees as needed according to policy.
  6. Supervises assigned organicgirl employees involved with harvest operations. Ensures compliance with wage and hour laws.  Ensures breaks and lunches are taken on a timely basis according to State laws.  Approves and submits employee timecards to Payroll on a weekly basis.
  7. Collaborate with other organicgirl managers/supervisors and their crew(s) to ensure harvest operations run efficiently and effectively.
  8. Work closely with farm owners and their managers and with Pest Control Service Company Advisors to ensure compliance with organicgirl standards.
  9. Oversee the activities assigned to Contracted Harvesters through coordination with their Contracted Labor Manager or Supervisor to maintain efficiency, speed and quality of Contracted Harvest Crew(s) work.
  10. Keep detailed harvest records and submit to appropriate management.
  11. Monitor quantity and quality of harvested product.
  12. Operate and schedule maintenance of trucks and field equipment.
  13. Coordinates harvest activities in transitions to seasonal areas.

  1. High School Diploma and 5 years of Agricultural experience required.  Prefer Bachelor’s degree or a combination of some college coursework and agricultural work experience.
  2. Experience with growing organic baby leaf, harvesting baby leaf and production forecasting preferred.
  3. Some experience with growing, harvesting or production forecasting required.
  4. Knowledge of food safety laws, regulations, guidelines and standards.
  5. Have a good safe working knowledge of farm machinery and farm operations.
  6. Experience managing staff.
  7. Experience operating trucks and field equipment.

  1. English is required; Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  2. Read, analyze and interpret documents including safety manuals, legal and financial correspondence.
  3. Will write routine reports and present information to cross-functional organicgirl teams.
  4. Effectively communicates with Contracted Harvesters, customers, and clients.
  5. Computer literacy required.
  6. Experience using Crop-track Software preferred.

  1. Works with basic mathematical concepts.
  2. Computes rates, ratios, percentages and yield.

  1. Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.
  2. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  1. Valid Driver’s License required.

  1. Frequent travel or seasonal relocation required.
  2. Ability to work outdoors and under variable weather conditions required.
  3. Must be comfortable with extensive travel – driving.
  4. Familiar with various map and GPS programs.

This position requires work outside in different types of weather conditions and will be regularly exposed to wet muddy outdoor conditions. Also, while performing duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally exposed to cold temperatures and heat when visiting plant (off site) locations. The employee may be visiting plant locations where the use of chemical substances are present and used in the processing plant.  The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold due to outside temperatures of while visiting plant locations.   Employee’s work is also subject to the pressures of time constraints and deadlines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
