Sanitation:
Under the direction of the shift Q.A. Crew Lead and/or Q.A. Supervisor, is responsible for cleaning production equipment and areas in a Food Manufacturing plant. Perform other duties as assigned. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (other duties may be assigned as needed):
  • Understand plant equipment, operation, and design in order to efficiently and correctly disassemble and reassemble for cleaning and sanitizing purposes.
  • Maintain areas of responsibility in a sanitary manner during the processing shifts including, but not limited to, equipment, processing lines, production areas, drains, etc. in a timely manner to comply with GMP’s and other company cleanliness standards.
  • Monitor chlorine levels for hand dips.
  • Monitor QUAT levels for foot dips.
  • Assist on product changeovers regarding sanitation needs.
  • Comply with all Company policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard
  • Operating Procedures (SOP), and any/all established processes, whether established by their manager, by the company or by law.
  • Comply with all health, safety, security, and emergency requirements that are communicated to them, whether established by their manager, by the company, or by law.
  • Participate in department tailgates and meetings as requested.
  • Maintain safe and efficient use of equipment, tools, and person.
  • Trained to prepare, use, and remove cleaning chemicals according to guidelines and in a safe manner.
  • May instruct and oversee the activities of new employees of the Sanitation Department.
  • Ensure application and removal of sanitizing agents when and where applicable to avoid any food contamination.
  • Respond to any unclean conditions as they arise.
SAFETY/GMP/Misc. (if applicable)
  • Maintain and work in accord with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration norms.
  • Adhere to GMP’s in accordance with company policy.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, read and write fluently in both English and Spanish to the shift Crew Lead, Supervisor, as well as other levels of management as needed.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents (such as safety rules, standard operating procedures and chemical labels).
  • Must have good recordkeeping skills.
  • Must be accurate and very detailed orientated.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have 1-2 years general experience in Manufacturing/Production or Sanitation to include systems and procedures.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Literate in English and or Spanish. Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Basic math skills (i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Demonstrated ability to use a calculator.

REASONING ABILITY:
  • Possess ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • Must be able to provide proof and eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to work in a food processing plant.
  • Prior experience in a fresh vegetable or food processing plant a plus.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be a current member of or willing to sign up with the Teamsters Local Union No. 890.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is consistently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and extreme cold, 36 degrees.  The employee will be working inside a production and/or warehouse facility where the use of chemical substances is present and used. Employees’ work is also subject to the pressures of time constraints and deadlines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and loud when working in the production/warehouse facility.
