As Director External Communications, you will lead a team of professionals to collaboratively advance our brand story in a way that educates external stakeholders on our major business initiatives, reinforces our corporate reputation and illustrates our leadership in the energy industry. As the company’s key external relations and media expert, you will establish and lead the strategy for public and media relations, crisis communications and issues management, financial communications and digital media engagement. The ability to consult and collaborate with all levels of management and manage sensitivities related to confidential information are keys to success in this role. 

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Executes multi-faceted strategies for external communications campaigns and programs that strengthen the company's brand and champions our culture and values; ensures that messaging resonates with investors, customers, employees and the communities in which the company operates
  • Develops and maintains productive relationships with top tier media outlets to drive an understanding of the company’s business initiatives, brand differentiators and public policy issues 
  • Oversees digital media engagement, including public and employee advocacy outlets 
  • Manages earnings announcements, annual reports and content for annual shareholders meetings; supports Investor Relations to ensure effective two-way communications between the company and external stakeholders
  • Anticipates issues that could impact the company’s business or reputation and maintains an effective crisis management process
  • Exhibits a hands-on strategic approach and team player mentality; encourages a collaborative environment and promotes across communications disciplines
  • Manages workforce planning and career development activities for direct reports 
  • Develops expense plan and forecasts; conducts regular cost analysis to aid in the understanding and management of operating cost and budget performance
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
  • Bachelor's degree in strategic communications, public relations, journalism, media relations, marketing communications or related field
  • A minimum of eight (8) years’ related experience 
  • Corporate communications leadership in a large, dynamic corporation
  • Experience in public relations, media relations, crisis management and/or marketing communications
  • Strong understanding of communications fundamentals, including demonstrated experience developing, writing and implementing integrated communications plans
  • Budget management experience 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety is the utmost priority
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications with emphasis in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Preferred: Energy industry experience
