Summary:  The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the overall administration and management of the Arkansas Foodbank in pursuit of the Arkansas Foodbank’s mission, goals, and objectives as established by the Board or Directors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  The statements contained herein describe the scope of the responsibility and essential functions of this position but should not be considered to be an all-inclusive listing of work requirements.  Individuals may perform other duties as assigned including work in other areas to cover absences or to equalize peak work periods or otherwise balance the workload.  Individuals in this position will likely work irregular hours as necessary.
 
  • Collaborate with the board of directors to identify, create, and implement strategic plans to actualize business objectives.
  • Assist in the recruitment and development of a board of directors that will enable the Arkansas Foodbank to meet its mission.
  • Identify, recruit, train and develop a talented team of employees who can lead critical departments and manage strategic business functions.
  • Monitor company operations and ensure employees and business practices comply with regulatory and legal requirements. Including but not limited to, compliance with Feeding America standards, USDA standards and State Health Department standards.
  • Develop the organizational culture and promote transparency and collaboration throughout the organization.
  • Develop partnerships with organization stakeholders, funders, donors and other relevant parties.
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities within the organization and its environment to protect business interests.
  • Identify potential sources of investment and approve fundraising efforts.
  • Represent the company at organization and community events in ways that strengthen the brand and communicate the organization’s message.
  • Ensure necessary contracts are developed and negotiated in the best interest of the Arkansas Foodbank.
  • Oversee the advocacy efforts of the Arkansas Foodbank including the recruitment of national, state and local official visits to the Arkansas Foodbank; supporting public policy that assists the Arkansas Foodbank in its mission and coordinating with Feeding America and the Arkansas Foodbank board for efforts that best suit the needs of Arkansans.
  • Reflect the values of the Arkansas Foodbank in all actions inside and outside the organizations.
  • Embrace learning and change by staying abreast of trends in food banking and non-profit organization management and developing strategies from this knowledge to allow the Arkansas Foodbank to successfully meet its mission.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Keep up-to-date and knowledgeable about food procurement and distribution issues and trends, policies, regulations, and other matters affecting the Arkansas Foodbank;
  2. Attend required staff meetings, training, and conferences;
  3. Maintain a positive relationship with Feeding America
  4. Perform other job-related duties as deemed necessary or as assigned by the board.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  The Chief Executive Officer directly supervises and evaluates the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Development Officer, Chief Community Initiatives Officer, Chief Information Officer, Communications & Marketing Director, Human Resource Director and Executive Assistant. Also provides general or indirect supervision of all Arkansas Foodbank staff.

Education and/or Experience:  Other significant relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements upon approval from the board of directors of the Arkansas Foodbank.
  1. Bachelor’s or advanced degree preferred;
  2. At least 8 to 10 years related experience and/or training;
  3. Computer proficiency required, preferably with spreadsheets, word processing, and understanding of basic operating programs.

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to operate finger, hand controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and stoop. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The position frequently requires flexibility in work hours to attend meetings both during and after hours, locally and out-of-state, requiring travel by air and/or rail.

Work Environment:  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to wet or humid conditions, extreme cold or heat, and general outside weather conditions.

  1. Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofing materials, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  2. Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.
